Employee Recognition Awards
Custom awards for the people a company wants to single out, from a single piece to a full program
Short answer
Employee recognition awards are physical awards a company gives to named people for something specific: a result, a milestone, a behavior worth repeating. We manufacture them to order in acrylic, wood and metal, with your logo, the award name, the recipient’s name and the reason on every piece. There is no minimum order, so one award for one person is a normal order, and a design proof is sent for approval before anything is produced. Most companies need three or four award types, not a dozen.

What counts as a recognition award
A recognition award is different from a gift or a bonus in one way that matters: it says, in permanent lettering, what the person did. That is why it gets kept. A gift card is spent and forgotten, while an award with a name and a reason on it tends to stay on a desk or a shelf for years.
In practice, most company recognition falls into four kinds, and each one suits a different sort of award:
- Performance: the best result in a period. Employee of the month, quarter or year, top sales, best site.
- Milestones: time served or a target reached. Service anniversaries, safety records, project completion.
- Values and behavior: how someone works. Leadership, mentoring, customer service, teamwork.
- Farewells: retirement and departure after long service.
If you are still deciding which of these your company should run, how to build an employee recognition program takes the decisions in order. If you already know, the award pages below go into each one.
Recognition awards by type

Employee of the month
A perpetual wall plaque for the workplace, a keeper award for the winner, or both working together.

Employee of the year
The one award a company gives once a year, built to look a step above everything else on the night.

Sales awards
Top performer, President’s Club and region of the year, with tiers that are easy to tell apart.

Leadership awards
For managers, executives and board chairs, where the citation matters more than the title.

Years of service
Which anniversaries to mark, how to make each tier look different, and what to write.

Team awards
Matching pieces for a whole team, each carrying one person’s name.
Choosing the form: plaque, freestanding award or something smaller
The right form depends on where the award will end up, which is a question worth asking before any design work starts.
- On a wall: a wood plaque with a printed acrylic face, or an acrylic plaque. Plaques suit awards that stay in the building, such as a perpetual employee of the month board, and formal individual awards. See plaque awards.
- On a desk or shelf: a freestanding award. Semi-custom awards put your artwork on a stock body, which keeps a large set consistent. Fully custom awards are shaped and layered from scratch around your logo. See semi-custom awards and custom awards.
- Worn or carried: pins for service tiers and club-style recognition, and medallions for company events where everyone who took part gets something.
- Shipped to a home address: smaller, lighter pieces travel better. Awards for remote and hybrid teams covers what changes when nobody is in the same room.
We build in acrylic, wood and metal. We do not sell glass or crystal awards, so if a previous program used them, send a photograph and we will design an acrylic piece in the same spirit.
What every recognition award should carry
Five things, in this order of size on the piece:
- The award name. Kept identical every time it is given, so it builds meaning.
- The recipient’s name. As they use it, checked against how they sign their own email.
- The reason. One specific line. “For rebuilding the returns process” will be read again in ten years; “for outstanding dedication” will not.
- The period. The month, quarter or year.
- The company name or logo. So the context survives a job change.
Worked examples for each kind of award are in employee award wording, and employee award categories and names lists what to call them.
Ordering one award or a whole program
The process is the same at any size. Send the award names, the recipients’ names, the wording even if it is rough, and your logo. We lay everything out on a design proof, you correct anything that needs it, and nothing is produced until you approve it.
For a set, send the names as a spreadsheet rather than typed into an email. Names are the most common error on any award order, and a list copied straight from your own records removes one retyping step.
Once a design exists it can be reordered with new names and dates, which is what keeps a recurring award looking the same from one year to the next. For the program-level questions, such as sizing a program to the organization and who signs off, see corporate awards. Every other guide for company buyers is collected in the Recognition Library.
Employee Recognition Awards FAQs
What is an employee recognition award?
A physical award given to a named employee for a specific achievement, milestone or contribution. It normally carries the award name, the person’s name, the reason, the date and the company name.
What are the most common employee recognition awards?
Employee of the month and year, years of service, sales achievement, leadership, customer service, safety and team awards. Most companies run three or four of these consistently instead of a long list.
Is there a minimum order?
No. A single award for one person is a normal order, and so is a set for a whole company.
Can the awards carry our logo and brand colors?
Yes. Awards are printed in full color and can be cut to custom shapes, so a logo can be part of the design instead of a small mark in a corner. Send the logo as a vector file if you have one.
What materials do you use?
Acrylic, wood and metal. Typical builds are layered acrylic awards, wood plaques with printed acrylic faces, acrylic plaques, and perpetual awards with metal name plates. We do not sell glass or crystal.
Can we see the award before it is made?
Yes. A design proof is sent for approval, and production starts only after you approve it.

Send the names and we will design the awards
Send the award names, the recipients, the wording and your logo. We lay it out on a design proof, and you can change anything before it is produced.
Tell us the date of the presentation and we will quote against it.
