Funny Trophies

Last-place trophies, booby prizes and inside jokes, made to order for leagues, offices and race clubs

Short answer

A funny trophy works when it is specific to your group and well enough made that people actually display it. We cut acrylic to almost any shape, print it in full color and mount it on acrylic, wood or metal, so a last-place trophy, a bowling league booby prize or an office in-joke can look exactly like the joke. There is no minimum order, so one loser trophy for a ten-person league is a normal job. You send the idea, a sketch or a photo, and we send a design proof before anything is produced.

Why a stock gag trophy falls flat

Most funny trophies sold online are the same few molded figures. They get a laugh once, then they go in a drawer. The trophies that become part of a group’s history are the ones that could only belong to that group: the shape of the dropped pass, the gutter ball, the spun-out kart, with the league’s own name on the base.

That is what fully custom awards are for. Acrylic is cut to the outline of whatever the joke is and printed in full color, so a cartoon of the league’s mascot or a photo of the moment in question becomes the trophy itself. For a set of matching joke awards on one design, semi-custom awards put your artwork on a stock body.

Where funny trophies get used

Custom acrylic award icon

Fantasy league last place

The most requested funny trophy we make. Usually a perpetual with a plate for every year’s loser, passed on at the draft.

Office superlatives

Most likely to reply-all, keeper of the good stapler. Small acrylic awards on one design, handed out at the holiday party.

Layered award icon

Bowling league booby prize

Lowest series, most gutter balls, worst split left standing. A gutter ball cut in acrylic makes the point.

Wall plaque icon

Golf outing booby prize

Most strokes, most balls lost, longest putt missed. Given at the dinner after the real awards.

Medallion award icon

Racing hard luck and best crash

Club and series banquets give these to the racer whose season fell apart, and the one with the most spectacular, unhurt get-off.

Pin and commemorative award icon

Party and contest awards

Ugly sweater, costume contest and chili cook-off categories, where the trophy is half the fun.

How we build a gag trophy

Tell us the joke in a sentence, and send anything that helps: a sketch on a napkin, a phone photo of the moment, the league logo. We turn it into a design, cut the shape and print it.

  • Shape: acrylic can be cut to the outline of almost anything flat: a broken club, a flat tire, a spilled coffee, a cartoon version of the league commissioner’s dog.
  • Layers: stacking two or three cut pieces gives depth, so a toilet, a trash can or a crashed bike reads from across the room.
  • Base: a wood or acrylic base with a plate for the name and year. Leave room for future plates if the trophy is passed on.
  • Size: funnier when it is slightly too big. A last-place trophy that has to be carried in both arms is half the joke.

We do not sell novelty trophies from a catalog. Every piece is designed to your idea, which is why it gets kept.

Rules of taste

A funny trophy should make the room laugh with the winner, not at them. A few rules keep it that way:

  1. Make it about the event, not the person. “Most gutter balls in a single game” is about bowling. A joke about someone’s weight, age, looks or money is about them.
  2. Only give it to someone who signed up for the joke. Last place in a fantasy league is fair, because everyone agreed to it at the draft. A gag award for a coworker who never asked to be part of it is not.
  3. Never joke about an injury. A best-crash award is only for a crash everyone walked away from.
  4. Keep it suitable for the youngest person in the room and the most senior person in the company.
  5. Pair a hard-luck award with something sincere. In racing, the hard luck award often honors the racer who kept showing up after a bad season, and it should be presented that way.

Funny award ideas has more on keeping the list kind.

Wording that lands

Short is funnier. Put the award title first, the name second, and let the shape of the trophy do the rest. A deadpan, official-sounding line often works better than a punchline.

If the trophy is passed on each year, keep the main wording general and put each recipient on a dated plate.

The loser trophy as a perpetual

The best-known funny trophies never leave the group. A last-place or loser trophy gains one plate per season, and the list of names becomes the real joke. Decide at the start how many years of plates to allow and who keeps it until next season.

Perpetual trophies covers plate planning. Season-end awards for the serious side of the night are on the end-of-season awards hub. If the trophy is due at a draft night or a banquet, work back from that date and see how far in advance to order.

Funny Trophies FAQs

Can you make a custom last-place trophy?

Yes. Describe the idea or send a sketch and we will design it, cut it to shape and print it in full color, with a plate for each year’s recipient if it is passed on.

What makes a good loser trophy?

It is specific to your group, clearly a joke, and well enough made that the loser has to display it until next season.

How do you keep a funny award from being offensive?

Keep the joke about the event rather than the person, give it only to people who signed up for it, and never joke about injuries, looks or money.

Can the trophy be shaped like our inside joke?

Usually, yes. Acrylic can be cut to the outline of almost any flat shape and printed with your artwork or a photo.

Is there a minimum order for one funny trophy?

No. A single last-place trophy is a normal order, as is a full set of office superlatives.

What materials do you use?

We build in acrylic, wood and metal, cutting, layering and printing everything in our own shop in Carson City, Nevada. We do not sell glass or crystal awards.
