Wrestling Trophies & Medals

Bracket awards for every weight class, plus team and outstanding-wrestler awards, designed around your tournament

Short answer

A wrestling tournament awards placings in every weight class, which adds up quickly, so medals are the usual choice for placers and trophies are kept for the team champion and a few individual honors such as outstanding wrestler and most pins. We cut custom acrylic medals to your tournament logo, worn on a neck ribbon, and design the trophies to match. There is no minimum order, and you approve a design proof before anything is produced.

Why wrestling runs on medals

Count the awards for one tournament: every weight class, several placings in each, and sometimes more than one age group or division. A trophy for each of those would fill a truck. A medal fits in a gear bag and gets hung on a bedroom wall.

Our medallion awards are printed and cut to shape, so the medal can be the outline of your tournament logo, your mascot or your state instead of a plain disc. Placings can share one design in different printed colorways.

The pieces that deserve to be trophies are the ones a team or a wrestler wins once: team champion, outstanding wrestler. We design those as custom awards in the same artwork.

Season and banquet awards

Most improved, hardest worker, captain’s award and coach’s award for the team banquet.

Working out the count

The number of medals is weight classes multiplied by places awarded, multiplied by divisions. Work it out on paper before requesting a quote, because it is the figure everything else depends on.

How the medal count builds
DecisionTypical choiceEffect on the count
Places awarded per weightTop four, or top six at larger eventsThe biggest factor
Weight classesSet by your level and rule bookOne set of places for each
DivisionsBy age group, or boys and girlsEach division repeats the full set
ColorwaysA different one for each placingChanges the artwork, not the count

Leave the weights themselves off the medal unless you want a separate version for every class. “Third Place” with the tournament name and year covers every weight, which keeps the set simple and avoids a spare medal for one class and a shortage in another.

Girls’ divisions, youth events and duals

Girls’ wrestling is often run as its own division at the same tournament. Give it the same awards in the same design. A smaller or different medal sends a message nobody intends.

Youth tournaments tend to place deeper, and in the youngest groups many give every wrestler something. A participant medal in the same shape with no placing on it does that job without diluting the placer medals.

Dual-meet tournaments award teams, not individuals, so the set is a champion and runner-up trophy plus a medal for each wrestler on those rosters. Participation awards looks at when an award for everyone works, and team awards covers pieces for a whole roster.

What goes on wrestling awards

Tournament name, placing, year. On the team trophy, add “Team Champion.” On the outstanding wrestler award, leave room for a name only if you can settle that with us when you request the quote, since the winner is not known until the last match.

A tournament that runs every year can reorder the same design with the year changed, so a wrestler’s medals from four seasons hang as a set. A team champion award that returns each year is a perpetual; see perpetual trophies.

What to send us

  • The tournament name and logo.
  • The number of weight classes, places awarded and divisions.
  • The trophies you want beyond the medals: team, outstanding wrestler, statistics awards.
  • The tournament date.

We design the medals and trophies together and send a proof for approval. Request a quote against your tournament date. For the coach and the seniors, see coach gift ideas and senior night gift ideas; everything else is in the Recognition Library.

Wrestling Trophies & Medals FAQs

Do wrestling tournaments give medals or trophies?

Mostly medals, because every weight class has several placers. Trophies are usually kept for the team champion, the runner-up and individual honors such as outstanding wrestler.

How many medals does a wrestling tournament need?

Multiply the number of weight classes by the places you award, then by the number of divisions. Add any participant medals for the youngest groups.

Should the weight class be printed on the medal?

Usually not. A medal that says the placing, the tournament and the year works for every class, so you are never short in one weight and over in another.

Can the medal be cut to our tournament logo?

Yes. Acrylic medals are cut to shape and printed in full color, and they are worn on a neck ribbon.

Can first, second and third look different?

Yes. The same design can be printed in a different colorway for each placing.

What is an outstanding wrestler award?

An individual honor for the best performance of the tournament, normally voted by the coaches or officials after the finals.
