Drag Boat Racing Trophies
Class winner, runner-up, bracket and eliminator awards for a race weekend, and points champions for the season
Short answer
A drag boat race is decided by elimination ladders, so the awards follow the ladder: a winner and a runner-up in each class or eliminator, sometimes semifinalists, and a separate set for bracket racing where the closest run to a dial-in wins. On top of the weekend awards come records, season points champions and team, crew and sponsor-presented awards. We design drag boat trophies from your association or event logo, in layered acrylic, wood and metal, with no minimum order and a proof you approve before anything is produced.

Built around the ladder
In drag boat racing, boats run side by side on a straight course and the loser of each pair goes home. A class with eight entries produces one winner, one runner-up and two semifinalists, and the trophy order should match that. Pro and top fuel style classes usually get the larger pieces; sportsman and bracket classes are often the largest share of entries and get a consistent set.
Bracket racing works differently. Each driver sets a dial-in, the slower boat leaves first, and the boat closest to its dial-in without breaking out wins. Bracket winners deserve awards that match the class awards, even though nobody went fastest.

What a drag boat race awards

Class winner and runner-up
One winner and one runner-up per class or eliminator is the common minimum. Many events add semifinalist awards in the bigger classes.

Bracket and eliminator awards
Winner and runner-up in each bracket or eliminator, in the same design as the class awards so a bracket win looks like a win.

Records
Low elapsed time and top speed for the event or the season, or a new class record. Leave the time or speed line to be filled in once it is official.

Season points champions
Class champions and points places for the season or a national title, the larger pieces presented at the banquet.

Team and crew awards
Crew chief, team of the year, best appearing boat and the crews that turn boats around between rounds.

Sponsor-presented awards
A sponsor’s name on a class or a special award they present on the dock. The award is the recognition; any prize is the event’s own business.
A weekend award list you can copy
A typical list for a drag boat race weekend. Trim it to the classes and eliminators that actually ran.
| Award | How many | What goes on it |
|---|---|---|
| Class winner | 1 per class | Event name, class, “Winner,” year |
| Class runner-up | 1 per class | As above with “Runner-Up” |
| Semifinalist | 2 per larger class, optional | As above with “Semifinalist” |
| Bracket or eliminator winner | 1 per bracket | Event name, bracket name, “Winner,” year |
| Bracket or eliminator runner-up | 1 per bracket | As above with “Runner-Up” |
| Low elapsed time or top speed | 1 or per class | Event name, award, time or speed, year |
| Best appearing boat or crew | 1 to 2 | Event name, award, year |
Many events leave the driver name off weekend awards so the trophies can be handed out at the end of the ladder without waiting for engraving. The event and class carry the identity; the winner’s name goes on the season award. Championship trophy wording covers what to put on the larger pieces.
Plan the count from the entry list
Drag boat entries move between events, and classes are sometimes combined when entries are thin. Order against last season’s class list, plus spares in the classes that most often split. If entry counts swing a lot, leave the class off the weekend award and put it on a small plate, so leftovers carry forward to the next race.

For the season-end side, a club or association usually awards class champions and points places, a rookie of the year and the crew and volunteers. Boat racing season awards lists them in banquet order.
Shapes that suit drag boat racing
Drag boat awards tend to look like the sport: a hull profile, a checkered flag, a tree of lights or the association logo cut in acrylic and layered over a printed background, with the class on a bold lower panel. Layered pieces stand on a black or wood base and read clearly in photos on the dock.
A single design can run through every class with only the panel text changing, which keeps a large order consistent. For other design approaches on the water, see power boat racing trophy ideas, and for how we work from your artwork, semi-custom awards.
What to send us
- The association or event logo and any sponsor logos.
- The class, bracket and eliminator list, and last season’s entries in each.
- How deep you award in each class: winner and runner-up, or semifinalists too.
- The race dates and the banquet date for season awards.
We send a design proof for the full set before anything is produced. For timing, work back from the first race date and contact us for the current lead time; how far in advance to order explains how.
Drag Boat Racing Trophies FAQs
How many trophies does a drag boat race need?
Count one winner and one runner-up for every class, bracket and eliminator, add semifinalists where you award them, then add records, special awards and spares for classes that may split.
Should bracket winners get the same trophy as class winners?
Many events use the same design for both so a bracket win carries the same weight. The panel text changes to the bracket name.
Can the trophy carry the elapsed time or speed?
Yes, on the record awards. Leave that line to be filled in after the run, or order the plate once the time is official.
Can the award be shaped like a drag boat?
Yes. Acrylic can be cut to a hull profile, a flag or the association logo, then layered and printed in full color from your artwork.
Do you make season championship awards for drag boat associations?
Yes. Class champions, points places and national championship pieces are designed as a larger set, often in the same style as the weekend awards.
Is there a minimum order?
No. One class award or a full season of weekend awards follows the same process.

Send the classes and we will design the set
Send your logo, the class and bracket list and how deep you award. We design the weekend and season awards together and send a proof before anything is produced.
There is no minimum order. Tell us the date of your first race or banquet when you ask for a quote.
