Chili Cook-Off Trophies
Custom awards for office, neighborhood and fundraiser cook-offs, with a category list to copy
Short answer
A chili cook-off needs at least two trophies: judges’ choice, decided by a tasting panel, and people’s choice, decided by everyone who buys a tasting ticket. Most events add a spiciest award, a best booth or presentation award and one or two for a laugh. We design the whole set around your event’s name and logo, cut to shape in acrylic and wood and printed in full color. There is no minimum order, and you approve a design proof before anything is produced.

A trophy that makes people enter next year
Nobody enters a cook-off for the prize money. They enter for the right to say they won, and the trophy is the proof. It sits on a desk or a kitchen shelf for twelve months and does more to recruit next year’s cooks than any flyer.
That is why a cook-off trophy is worth designing rather than picking off a shelf. A chili pepper, a cast-iron pot, a ladle, the event’s own logo: acrylic can be cut to any of those shapes and printed in full color, then mounted on a wood or acrylic base with the award name on a plate.
We build these as custom awards, designed from your idea, and a sketch on paper is enough to start.
The two awards every cook-off needs, and four it might

Judges’ choice
The main prize. Picked by a small panel tasting blind, usually with first, second and third.

People’s choice
Voted by attendees with tickets or tokens. At a fundraiser this is the award that raises the money.

Spiciest
Sometimes judged, sometimes simply agreed by whoever is still standing. A good place for the pepper-shaped award.

Best booth or presentation
For the table that went all out on decoration. It rewards effort that has nothing to do with cooking.

Traveling champion’s trophy
A perpetual that moves to each year’s winner and carries every champion’s name.

Good-humor awards
Most mysterious ingredient, bravest recipe, best name. One or two is plenty.
A category list to copy
Pick the categories before entries open, and print them on the sign-up sheet. Cooks decide what to make based on what can be won.
| Category | Decided by | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Judges’ Choice: 1st, 2nd, 3rd | Tasting panel | Blind tasting from numbered cups keeps it fair |
| People’s Choice | Attendee votes | One winner is usually enough |
| Spiciest Chili | Panel or popular vote | Warn the judges |
| Best Vegetarian Chili | Tasting panel | Worth adding if you expect several entries |
| Best White or Green Chili | Tasting panel | For events with a wide range of styles |
| Most Original Recipe | Tasting panel | Rewards the entry nobody saw coming |
| Best Booth | Organizers or popular vote | Judged before the tasting opens |
| Best Team Name | Organizers | Announce it first to warm up the room |
A first-year office event can run happily on three trophies. A large fundraiser with dozens of entries can support the full list. Match the number of awards to the number of entries, so winning still means something.
What to put on the trophy
Keep it to the event, the award and the year. The winner’s name is not known in advance, so the trophy is made without it; if you want names, plan a plate to be added afterward or use a perpetual.

For a company event, add the company logo. For a fundraiser, name the cause. More wording examples are in the plaque wording guide.
Office cook-off, church cook-off or fundraiser
- Office events: a traveling champion’s trophy works best, because it stays visible at someone’s desk all year. See perpetual trophies for how many name plates to plan for.
- Church, school and neighborhood events: winners usually keep their trophies, so a matched set in three sizes for first, second and third is the standard order.
- Fundraisers: add a thank-you for the main sponsor, presented alongside the cooking awards. Sponsor plaques covers what goes on one. Volunteers who ran the day can be thanked the same way; see volunteer awards.
Running other company events through the year? The Recognition Library has pages for golf outings, cornhole and bowling nights as well.
What to send us
- The event name, the year and any logo.
- Your category list with how many places each one pays.
- A sketch or description of any shape you have in mind.
- Whether the event repeats, so the same design can be reordered next year.
We send a design proof for the set and you approve it before anything is produced. Tell us the date of the cook-off and request a quote against it.
Chili Cook-Off Trophies FAQs
How many trophies does a chili cook-off need?
Two at minimum: judges’ choice and people’s choice. Most events add second and third place for the judged award plus one or two extra categories such as spiciest or best booth.
What is the difference between judges’ choice and people’s choice?
Judges’ choice is decided by a small tasting panel, usually tasting blind. People’s choice is decided by attendees voting with tickets or tokens.
Can the trophy be shaped like a chili pepper or a pot?
Yes. Acrylic is cut to shape and printed in full color, so the award can take the outline of a pepper, a pot, a ladle or your event logo.
Can we put the winner’s name on it?
Winners are not known until the day, so trophies are normally made without a name. A name plate can be planned for afterward, or a perpetual trophy can carry each year’s champion.
Can a small office cook-off order just one trophy?
Yes. There is no minimum, and a single traveling trophy is a sensible first-year order.
Can we reuse the design next year?
Yes. The design can be reordered with the year changed, so the awards match from one cook-off to the next.
